Our Settings
We host a portfolio of nurseries designed to cater to various age groups, offering a safe and stimulating environment for children's development. Each nursery boasts highly trained early years professionals who prioritise personalized care and attention, ensuring each child's unique needs are met.
The curriculum at all of our Howgill nurseries is carefully crafted to encompass a rich tapestry of activities, promoting intellectual, social, and emotional growth. Combining play-based learning with structured educational experiences, such as storytelling, arts, and crafts, and outdoor exploration, children are imbued with a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.
Outreach Services:
Recognising the importance of supporting families beyond being at nursery, we extend our services through a range of outreach programs. These initiatives aim to enhance the well-being of families and strengthen community bonds by providing essential resources and support.
Parenting workshops and educational sessions form the backbone of Howgill's outreach efforts. These sessions cover a wide range of topics, including child development, communication strategies, and emotional well-being. By empowering parents with evidence-based knowledge, Howgill Family Centre contributes to the creation of nurturing home environments that facilitate a child's growth and development.
Both our Good Enough Start and Early Years Projects provide a safe and non-judgmental space for parents to connect, share their experiences, and gain support from peers who face similar challenges. Facilitated by experienced professionals, these groups promote the formation of invaluable social networks, empowering parents as they navigate the complexities of parenting.
Becoming a parent is a joyous and transformative experience, but it can be overwhelming. Our Good Enough Start program recognises the importance of providing equal support to all new parents, regardless of their circumstances. We give every family access to necessary resources and support in their journey through parenthood. We recognise that providing a good enough start for a child involves not just materials essentials but emotional well-being and a sense of community. Our Practitioners will share the facts about the parent-infant relationship when they meet you during your pregnancy and answer any questions you may have. With your consent they will ask you to share information and thoughts about your pregnancy and home circumstances. Our team will provide additional bespoke antenatal and postnatal support for parents and infants when needed to empower you to build your unique parent-infant bond. We have a range of Good Enough Start groups based in Millom, from Walk and Talk, Grow Together and Building Blocks.
Our similar Early Years Project based in Cleator Moor, also encourages peer support groups where parents can share experiences and learn from each other. Through our provision of baby support groups we empower families to create a strong positive parenting experience. We have our newest groups Mess Monsters and Stay and Play in our new Studio Room.
Our Baby Basics service provides families in need essential baby items. It can be easy to take for granted the basic necessities needed to care for a newborn. For many families in our community, they face financial hardship and therefore providing essential baby items can be challenging. We collect and distribute donated baby items to families referred by health professionals.
Time to Be Me is our invaluable program based in primary schools that prioritses the mental wellbeing of students. By providing in-school mental health support, developing coping strategies, building emotional intelligence, and adopting a collaborate approach, we aim to create a nurturing and supportive environment for students to thrive. We recognise the significance of mental health of mental health in childhood and work to cultivate resilience and wellbeing in our young learners, setting them up for success both academically and personally.
